What causes short teeth?

This condition, also known as microdontia, is usually caused by genetics and can occur in children and adults. Wear and tear is also a cause. Patients who grind their teeth at night or have a misaligned bite can suffer from shortened teeth as well.

SHORT TEETH AS A RESULT OF CHEMICAL BREAKDOWN AND PHYSICAL WEAR

Chemical erosion can result in the irreversible loss of tooth structure. Acid wears down the enamel. This is often caused by Vitamin C-induced erosion.

SHORT TEETH RESULTING FROM EXCESSIVE GUM TISSUE COVERING TEETH

Short teeth can also be caused by excessive gum tissue. In these cases, the teeth never fully erupted from the gums. And another condition called gingival hypertrophy, gum tissue can grow over the teeth.
